So, I’ll ask again…are they sexy enough? If your goals aren’t big, juicy, sexy, delicious, and make your insides quiver just by sheer thought, then it’s back to the drawing board for you.

Maybe you didn’t realize that the great thing about goals is the way you feel when you achieve them, or maybe it’s just been a long time since you have. But, when you do achieve your goals, you win…and it immediately sends you on with the path for more and you build a winning mentality – it’s what makes life so fun! Just thinking about it gives me chills.

You may be saying, “Linea, I haven’t won in a while and frankly goals suck and I stopped setting them. I don’t reach them anyway.” If that is what you are saying, I’m here to tell you, today is the first day of the rest of your new life! I have something that will change how you feel about goals and help you simply start winning!

Let me cover a few basic tips about successful goal setting. Before you get all huffy… When is the last time you achieved your goals? Are you living the life that you want? Probably not or maybe you are but maybe it’s been a struggle to even get this far.

Let me tell you a quick story about my personal experience. I hit a time in my life where I practically stopped setting goals. I figured why bother it takes forever and there are always so many interruptions with my children and other things…I felt like it was a waste of time. I can recall even saying that goals make me depressed because at that time, they seemed so unachievable. (Now some Guru’s or so called Guru’s would say…I may have been aiming too high blah, blah, blah.) But the fact of the matter is I JUST DIDN’T KNOW HOW to aim at all. What steps should I take? How to break my lifetime goal down, etc. Even back then my desire to achieve was higher than my urge to quit and I have been able to take control of my life and turn my goals, ideas, wishes and resolutions into tangible reality that I actually experience each day.

Here are some goal setting tips:
1. Think Big
2. Identify the motivating factors and drive for achieving your goal
3. Write in the present
4. Include a completion date
5. Review them everyday
6. Reflect on them morning and night
7. No need to force them into existence
8. Performance matters…not the outcome

So what is a belief anyway?  A belief is a thought rehearsed over and over in your mind.  It is a thought that you had where you looked for proof to determine the results either positive or negative, for you or against you.  Many of our beliefs today (both positive and negative) come from what we heard our parents say when we were young. However, there are many who have been told negative things and it didn’t have an affect on their thinking.  Many have held on to positive and empowering thoughts in their darkest hour.  The more someone said that they “couldn’t do” the more they told themselves that they “would do”.

Let me challenge you today to start creating different beliefs (or give someone else the tools to do so).  I’m talking the kinds of beliefs where miracles are born!!  Be prepared to work mentally and use your will to put your mind into action because it takes practice, after all some of you have practiced negative thoughts for many years.  Start thinking and believing in a more improved situation no matter how small or large and change your life – thought by thought, day by day!

In the last week, I focused a lot more on being grateful for everything and also being excited about life in general.  Even though I start each day by writing in my gratitude journal (of which I highly recommend), I decided to enlist the assistance of my children to heighten my focus.

Instead of answering the many questions about the traffic etc on the ride to school, I decided to play a game that I called The Gratitude Game.  There was only one rule, each person had to state one thing they are grateful for and then it would be the next persons turn. 

I went first for example purposes.  “I am so happy and grateful for this beautiful sunny morning.” My youngest went next, he said “I’m so happy and grateful for: my sneakers; my new Iron Man backpack; my uniform; my new teacher…” He kept going and going; I could barely interrupt him.  He was overflowing with excitement and I could feel his energy!  I told him we have to take turns he said “I know mommy, but I’m just so happy and excited!”  We all laughed and continued playing for the entire ride.  What an awesome experience and what a wonderful day we all had.

So, what are you grateful for? 

Go through life with an attitude of gratitude and you will discover a different way of living.

It feels exhilarating to have complete and total freedom.  Granted the only version of prison that I’ve ever experienced was that of a cubicle while working a 9-5, combined with the limited annual salary and limited thinking.  That’s enough to make anyone a little nutty.  I have released myself from that bondage by making a powerful and bold decision to take control of my life no matter what.  What changed to bring me to that decision?  The answer is simply, “How I do things”. 

I understand that if any one is to experience the freedom that they desire they have to dig a little deeper than, their why/purpose and goals.  Although they play a huge part, it does go a little deeper.  Wouldn’t you agree?  Here is a quote that I read over a year ago and once I really got it – it changed everything.

“The ownership of money and property comes as a result of doing things in a certain way, and those who do things in this certain way – whether on purpose or accidentally – get rich, while those who do not do things in this certain way – not matter how hard they work or how able they are – remain poor.” –Wallace D. Wattles, The Science of Getting Rich

So if doing things in a certain way is the key to success or in this case freedom, why don’t more people strive for it?  After all, it is available to everyone.  I could list a dozen or more excuses that I have heard on why people don’t, but for the sake of empowering you, I won’t. 

What I would like to do is challenge you to take a long hard look at yourself and ask yourself the following questions:  Did I get what I came for?  Do I have the level of freedom that I desire?  If not, why?  Maybe you too need to start the doing of things in a certain way.  What is the certain way?  Well, that’s another post for another day. For those that are already doing things in a certain way, enjoy your freedom!
